MEET JENYFFER
Right out of business school, I landed a great job. A job I worked hard at. A job most people would be proud to have. But every morning when I looked at my reflection in the mirror, I knew I was living someone else's life. I was petrified that I was wasting away in a meaningless position that didn't serve me or bring me joy.
I was transported to my childhood where in the bedroom mirror, I would reenact the Latin soap operas my mother and I watched together that afternoon. I remember knowing in those moments, watching my face in that mirror...that I was where I belonged. I had a purpose and a passion.
That reflection changed my life. I am now in New York City living the life of my dreams! I train with amazing coaches, study with the greats like Seth Barrish from The Barrow Group and develop my improv skills at the iconic People’s Improv Theater. I am tenacious and unstoppable; I audition on a regular basis and create my own content!
I have had the great fortune to work with some incredibly talented artists in the New York theater scene plus loads of indie films, a co-star in the web-series Toni and a guest star on the TV series, The Hunt for John Walsh. I am a proud, bi-lingual, Dominican, powerful female supporting women and diversity in our industry.
I want the world to know that they too can realize their dreams! I came from a well-educated and stable family. They wanted the best for me and that included a good, sensible job. This created some fear around the career I knew was my calling. When I did finally quit that job and told them of my plans, I was both pleasantly surprised and deeply grateful that they supported me fully and understood the necessity to do the thing in life that brings happiness to me and others!
I hope to be a power of example to others. Life is too short to have anything less than what you passionately desire. Do what you love. Be you! Stand firmly in your power and purpose. Be that authentic self you see smiling back at you in the mirror.
